What is marionette line filler?
As we age, the tissue around the mouth loses volume, the skin thins, and the lower cheek and jowl can descend. A muscle that pulls the mouth corners down may also become more active. Together, these create a shadow and a downturn at the mouth corners.
HA filler placed along and beneath the line adds support, brightens the shadow and may slightly lift the mouth corner. Results generally last about 6 to 12 months.

Dr. Park looks at the whole lower face: jowls, jawline, chin projection and the muscle that pulls the corners downward. If the corners turn down mainly from muscle pull, a small dose of Botox may be part of the plan. If jowls are the main issue, a thread lift or lifting device may come first, since filling below a sagging jowl can make it look heavier.
When filler is chosen, he uses modest amounts and prefers to build gradually. Chin support is sometimes considered too, because a weak chin can make marionette lines look deeper.

What to expect
After consultation, numbing is applied and the injection takes a short time. Swelling and tenderness around the mouth are common for a few days; bruising is possible.

Aftercare
- Avoid pressing, massaging or sleeping on the treated area for the first few days
- Skip saunas, intense exercise and alcohol for a day or two
- Use a cool compress gently if swelling appears
- Avoid dental work or facials in the area for a short time if possible
- Contact the clinic right away if you notice increasing pain, blanching, dusky skin color or vision changes

Frequently asked questions
Will filler make my lower face look heavy?
