What are V-line injections?
"V-line injections" is a general term for injectable treatments that create a slimmer, more tapered jawline. Two different mechanisms are usually involved:
- Fat-reducing injections break down localized fat along the jaw, under the chin, or on the lower cheeks, so the body can gradually clear it.
- Botulinum toxin (Botox) in the masseter relaxes the chewing muscle at the angle of the jaw. With less activity, the muscle may gradually become less bulky, which can soften a square jaw.
These address completely different tissues. Injecting fat-dissolving solution into a muscular jaw will not slim it, and Botox will not reduce fat.
Fat or muscle? How we tell the difference
Dr. Park palpates the lower face while you are relaxed, then asks you to clench your teeth. A masseter that bulges firmly under the fingers suggests muscle is a major factor. Soft, pinchable fullness along the jaw or under the chin suggests fat. Many people have some of each, and a few have structural width from bone, which neither injection changes.

What to expect
Dr. Park explains his findings and plan before treatment and talks with you during it. Botox injections are quick, with brief pinches. MelFat takes about 30 minutes and may bring a warm, stinging feeling afterward.
After MelFat, swelling and bruising commonly last 2–3 days and can take 1–2 weeks to settle. After masseter Botox, most people have little visible downtime; slimming from muscle relaxation develops gradually over weeks. Both usually need repeat sessions for maintenance. Results vary.
Aftercare
- After MelFat, massage the area for 2–3 hours as instructed
- After Botox, avoid rubbing or massaging the injected area on the day of treatment
- Skip saunas, alcohol, and intense workouts on the treatment day
